Wifi Qr Code Generator

If you've ever spelled out a WiFi password letter by letter to a confused guest, you already know the problem a WiFi QR code solves. Instead of typing a long, case-sensitive password, your guest just opens their phone's camera, scans a code, and taps "Connect." No app, no typing, no mistakes.

This page explains exactly how a WiFi QR code works, where people use them, and at the bottom of this page a free WiFi QR code generator you can use right now, no sign-up required.

What is a WiFi QR code, and how does scanning it connect you?

A regular QR code usually holds a website link. A WiFi QR code is different it holds your network's actual connection details (the network name, password, and security type) packed into a special text format that phones recognize automatically. When a phone's camera scans it, instead of opening a browser, it reads the WiFi details and shows a "Join Network?" prompt. One tap, and the guest is online the password never has to be typed, read aloud, or copied from a sticky note.

Where WiFi QR codes actually get used

This isn't just a coffee-shop trick. Airbnb hosts print one on the fridge so guests connect the moment they arrive. Cafés and co-working spaces frame one at the counter instead of a chalkboard password that changes every week. Offices put one in the reception area for visitors. Even at home, sticking a small WiFi QR card near your router means you never have to unlock your phone and read out your password to a relative again.

Is it safe to share a WiFi QR code?

A WiFi QR code is exactly as safe as telling someone your WiFi password out loud it doesn't expose anything extra. Anyone who scans it can join your network, same as anyone who is told the password directly, so treat the printed code the way you'd treat the password itself: fine to leave out for guests, not something to post publicly online or hand out to strangers. If you ever change your WiFi password, simply generate a new code the old one will just stop working since the password inside it is now outdated.

What you'll need before you generate yours

Just two things: your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears when you search for WiFi networks, and your password exactly as typed, including capitalization. Below, choose your security type too — almost all home and office routers today use WPA or WPA2, so that's the safe default unless you know otherwise. Once generated, download the code as a PNG and print it, or just display it on a screen — either way, it scans the same.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an app to scan a WiFi QR code?
No most modern iPhone and Android phones can scan it directly from the built-in camera app. No extra download needed.

Will this work if I change my WiFi password later?
The code only stores the password at the time you generate it. If you change your password, generate a new code and replace the old one.

Can I use this for a business or guest network?
Yes it works for any WiFi network, personal or business, as long as you know the exact network name and password.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do these QR codes expire?

No. Codes generated here are static. The data is encoded directly into the pattern, so it never expires and works offline once scanned.

Will adding a logo stop it from scanning?

Not if you keep the logo small and use High error correction (the default when a logo is added). This lets the code stay readable even with part of it covered.

Can I use this for a business or client project?

Yes. Codes generated here are free to use for personal and commercial purposes, with no attribution required.
